Anne N. Murphy, Ph.D., Professor of Pharmacology at UCSD’s School of Medicine, is a bioenergeticist who focuses on mitochondrial proteins and transporters as potential drug targets. Her group is working toward the discovery of therapeutic strategies to correct metabolic defects in neurodegeneration. Her current emphasis is on the mitochondrial pyruvate transporter and how modulation of its activity can protect neurons from excitotoxic neuronal death. Previously, she was the Director of Mitochondrial Biology at MitoKor, a biotechnology company in San Diego that focused on target and drug discovery for chronic forms of degenerative diseases involving mitochondrial dysfunction.
